Converting to a zero-waste bathroom may sound like a difficult task, but it’s actually quite simple! Most bathroom products are designed to be cheap, convenient and disposable; they're often packaged in a large amount of plastic which renders them difficult to recycle and therefore just thrown in the dump.
What are the advantages of zero-waste products?
- They reduce drastically the consumption of plastics (PET, vinyl, etc.), which is a big issue for our lands and oceans. According to Zero Waste Week, more than 120 billion units of packaging are produced globally every year by the cosmetics industry, contributing to a loss of 18 million acres of forest annually. Marine creatures are ingesting micro beads, wet wipes and plastic packaging which eventually blocks their digestive tract and causes them to die.
- they are Portable and light, it's easier to transport (a small soap that lasts a long time, instead of a large bottle of body wash).
- Formulated without water, those products are very effective due to their high concentration of active ingredients.
- No plastic container is required, so the carbon footprint of the product is reduced.
The good news is that a lot of brand are offering alternatives and Tata Myia is one of them! We acknowledged this and focused on reducing our environmental footprint, How?
- By using recycled and recyclable packaging
- Opting for organic ingredients that are raw, unrefined and cold press with no pesticide or green chemical process and therefore, does not contribute to the pollution of our land and oceans
- Manufacturing our products with ancestral method that required less energy
Our main objective is to share our vision of how to be zero waste in the bathroom! It means changing the way you consume and the way you live. It's not a trend, but a way of shaping your life around your values.
What you can do?
You can give preference to sustainable, high-quality products that are produced in good working conditions and use as little transport as possible. Avoiding plastic and using other materials instead, such as glass , aluminium tin, paper, cardboard etc… – anything that can be kept, reused or recycled!
You can start by swapping your plastic toothbrush for a bamboo toothbrush, plastic shampoo/conditioner bottles for shampoo bars, disposable razor for a safety razor, disposable cotton pads for reusable makeup remover pads, synthetic scrubbers and sponges for natural alternatives (konjac, loofah…) or disposable pads and tampons for menstrual cups and reusable cloth pads!
